A fiery percussive journey from
Southern Italy to the North East of Brazil featuring a
cross cultural collaboration of trance, rhythm, ritual drumming and
chants.
Outfitted with an extensive complement of exotic percussion instruments, tambourine virtuoso Alessandra Belloni and drummer Sergio Bellotti
embark on a new collaboration celebrating and exploring the rhythmic similarities between southern Italy and other cultures by blending tambourines
and frame drums with drumset. With music ancient and new, they create a bridge between ancient rituals and modern rhythms into a vibrant musical tapestry.
In this ground breaking performance, these accomplished percussionists will perform Southern Italian & Brazilian ritual drumming, chants and trance dance,
putting a new spin to original and traditional arrangements from the musical backgrounds. The program includes electrifying performances of the Tarantella,
a purifying Italian healing dance used as an antidote to the mythical bite of the tarantula; processional chants and ritual drumming in honor of the Black Madonna;
and love laments, lullabies and women's work chants from the dawn of Southern Italy. The show also features innovative takes on Brazilian chants and rhythms, including samba, baiao, forro, and samba de coco. Sergio Bellotti on drumset and background vocals,native of Southern Italy adds a
real southern Italian groove and makes some songs an explosion of rhythms.
